The Toronto Blue Jays and the Detroit Tigers will meet up on the MLB(mlb championship rings) diamond Friday to start up their series.
Toronto(cheap Toronto Blue Jays championship rings) is coming out of a series versus the Red Sox. The Jays won Tuesday but fell on Monday and Wednesday there. In the Thursday finale, Toronto fell 5-0. For Friday’s game, the Jays are going with Marcus Stroman in the start. Stroman is 5-10 with a 3.25 ERA and 88 strikeouts this season. Over on the Tigers’ side, they’re fresh off a set versus Cleveland. Detroit dropped the first three games of that one 8-6, 8-0 and 7-2. In the Thursday matchup, the Tigers fell 6-3.
In the Friday game, Detroit(custom Detroit Tigers championship rings) will send out Jordan Zimmerman for the starting role. This season Zimmerman is 0-6 with a 7.01 ERA and 35 Ks. The Blue Jays are 5-17 in their last 22 in game one of a series and 1-7 in their last eight Friday games. The over is 11-5 in Toronto’s last 16 in game one of a series and they’re 4-1 in their last five versus the AL Central.
Meanwhile, the Tigers(custom championship rings) are 4-0 in their last four home games following a road trip of a week or more and 8-20 in their last 28 in game one of a series. Detroit is 15-40 in their last 55 Friday games and 0-5 in their last five versus the AL East. Stroman will be throwing for the first time in Detroit here, but he’s gone against the Tigers four times over his career. On Opening Day in Toronto, Stroman put up seven scoreless innings. As for Zimmerman, he was roughed up by the Royals on Sunday and has given up 14 runs on 21 hits in 7.1 innings over his past pair.
I like Stroman to come out and pitch well here so I’m going Blue Jays.
The Calgary Stampeders(Calgary Stampeders championship rings) look to get a game above a .500 record when they take to the road for the first time. The Calgary Stampeders have split their last six road games. Bo Levi Mitchell is completing 63 percent of his passes for 527 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Levi Mitchell has one or more touchdown passes in each of his last eight games. Markeith Ambles and Eric Rogers have combined for 300 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Reggie Begelton has 10 receptions. The Saskatchewan Roughriders(Saskatchewan Roughriders championship rings) look for another home victory to get back to a .500 record. Cameron Judge leads the Saskatchewan Roughriders with 18 tackles, Charleston Hughes has four sacks and Derrick Moncrief has one interception.
The Stampeders are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games, 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 vs. West. The Roughriders are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in July, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 10-21 ATS in their last 31 Saturday games. The over is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings in Saskatchewan. The under is 3-1-1 in Roughriders last 5 games overall. The over is 6-2 in Stampeders last 8 Saturday games.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders(cheap championship rings) have had success against Calgary in the past, winning three of the last six meetings, and you can argue both teams are in different spaces. The Roughriders are a little more consistent offensively with increased expectations, while the Stampeders are shaky as all hell defensively and ask way too much of their quarterback. The Calgary Stampeders could easily be winless on the season and that would have been five losses in their last six regular season games. I'm just not impressed with Calgary through two games. I'll lay the reasonable chalk with the Roughriders at home.
The BC Lions(BC Lions championship rings) look for their first win of the season after a brutal 0-3 start to the year. The BC Lions have lost four of their last five road games. Mike Reilly is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 827 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. Reilly has at least one touchdown pass in 19 of his last 21 games. Bryan Burnham and Lemar Durant have combined for 463 receiving yards and three touchdowns while Duron Carter has 19 receptions. The BC Lions ground game is averaging 49.3 yards per contest, and John White leads the way with 92 yards and one touchdown. Defensively, BC is allowing 36 points and 379.3 yards per game. Jordan Herdman-Reed leads the BC Lions with 15 tackles, Davon Coleman has two sacks and Aaron Grymes has one interception.
The Toronto Argonauts(Toronto Argonauts championship rings) also look for their first victory after a rough 0-2 start to the season. The Toronto Argonauts have lost four of their last five home games. James Franklin is completing 66.7 percent of his passes for 445 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Franklin and McLeod Bethel-Thompson have combined for 560 passing yards this season. Armanti Edwards and Derel Walker have combined for 246 receiving yards and one touchdown while Llevi Noel has 13 receptions. The Toronto Argonauts ground game is averaging 54.5 yards per contest, and James Wilder Jr. leads the way with 72 yards and on 16 carries. Defensively, Toronto is allowing 48 points and 563 yards per game. The Lions are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games, 2-8 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Argonauts are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games, 1-5 ATS vs. a team with a losing record and 17-35 ATS in their last 52 games overall. The Lions are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Toronto and the under is 14-2 in the last 16 meetings in Toronto. The over is 4-1 in Argonauts last 5 home games. The over is 4-0 in Lions last 4 games overall.
Both of these teams may be winless, but it's the Toronto Argonauts(custom championship rings) who have had their face stomped in twice and have shown little effort defensively and have no ground attack offensively. The BC Lions have been competitive in two of their three losses and just went toe-to-toe with the Calgary Stampeders on the road as 10.5-point underdogs. BC has also won three of the last four meetings against Toronto and four of the last five times it's played at BMO Field. The records may be similar, but it's the BC Lions who have shown more life and have to enter this contest considered the better team.
BOSTON (AP) Lourdes Gurriel Jr. came strolling out of Toronto's(Toronto Blue Jays championship rings) clubhouse to an interview area wearing a wrestling-belt lookalike with a big smile on his face. The Blue Jays give one to their position player of the game and another to their pitcher to wear. It's easy to figure out who had the other one when they made their way out of town. Marcus Stroman pitched six shutout innings, Gurriel Jr. had three hits and threw out a runner at the plate, and the Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1 Sunday.
''We do one for a pitcher and another for a hitter,'' said Stroman, wearing his while chatting with Blue Jays(mlb championship rings for sale) fans before he walked to the team bus. Stroman showed his own joy earlier when he fanned Eduardo Nunez, the final batter he faced. ''To limit that team to no runs over six is huge,'' Stroman said. ''It's hard to do. I was really locked in all game. That's just me showing emotion, passion for the game.'' Danny Jansen hit a two-run single and Eric Sogard a solo homer for the Blue Jays, who won the final two games of the three-game series. Rowdy Tellez added two hits and scored twice.
The Red Sox(Boston Red Sox championship rings for sale) had won eight of nine after taking the series opener Friday on Christian Vazquez's two-run, walk-off homer. Stroman (5-9) held the Red Sox to five singles - three coming consecutively in the second inning when Gurriel made his throw from left field - and struck out six while walking one. It's the fifth time in his last eight starts that he's held an opponent to no more than one earned run. ''That was the best part definitely of the day over the hitting,'' Gurriel said through a translator. ''It was really emotional. I was so happy to get that guy at home plate.''
Rick Porcello (5-7) gave up five runs on eight hits over six innings. The Blue Jays scored single runs in the second and third before adding three more in the sixth for a 5-0 lead. ''Put ourselves in a tough hole especially when Stroman was throwing the ball so well and runs and hits were hard to come by,'' Porcello said of the sixth. Unlike the first two games of the series when each team blew a big lead late, Stroman and three relievers made this one stand.
On Friday, the Red Sox trailed 5-1 in the seventh. Toronto(championship rings for sale) fell behind 6-0 and trailed 6-1 in the seventh Saturday before coming back against Boston's beleaguered bullpen. ''We stole one on Friday, we had a lead on Saturday, and they stole the game, and today we didn't show up,'' Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. ''It's disappointing.'' With Toronto leading 2-0, Porcello balked home a run before Jansen lined his bases-loaded single to left-center. Gurriel cut down Brock Holt trying to score from second easily on Jackie Bradley Jr.'s single with two on and one out.
Brandon Drury's broken bat RBI single made it 1-0, and Cavan Biggio had a run-scoring double.
Zack Wheeler, who had allowed five runs total this spring heading into today’s game(mlb championship rings), was charged with five earned runs in three innings in his final tune-up before taking the mound next Sunday in the team’s third game of the regular season. Wheeler had a rough first inning and was tagged for four runs on four hits, including home runs to Dwight Smith Jr. and Chris Davis. Smith Jr. added a solo home run in the third inning as well. Wheeler finished with two walks and two strikeouts and finished with a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings.
The Mets fell behind early and kept clawing their way back. They trailed 4-3 after three and 5-4 after five before tying the game in the top of the seventh and eighth innings only to fall behind again in the bottom half of those innings. Finally, Dominic Smith connected on a three-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth to give the team their first lead. Matt Blackham worked around a walk in the bottom of the ninth to finish the game and earn the save.
Pete Alonso hit his fifth home run of the spring — a solo shot in the eighth to tie the game at six — and ended up finishing in a tie with Michael Conforto and Jeff McNeil for the team lead. He finished the spring with a very impressive .361/.395/.667 slash line in 72 at-bats. While the team has not made any official announcements, he will presumably travel with the club to Washington D.C. and should find himself in the starting lineup on Opening Day. Speaking of impressive, McNeil finished 3-for-3 with two solo home runs and three runs scored. He will finish Grapefruit League play with five home runs and a .364/.397/.691 slash line in 55 at-bats. He will likely open the season as the starting third baseman with Jed Lowrie and Todd Frazier recovering from injuries.
Wilson Ramos was in the lineup one day after exiting the game with an apparent hand injury and was able to catch all nine innings. Ramos finished Grapefruit League action with a .359/.381/.487 slash line in 39 at-bats. Despite allowing the go-ahead run in the eighth inning, Edwin Diaz earned his first victory this spring. He pitched the eighth inning for the Mets and struck out the side while allowing one run on one hit. Robert Gsellman pitched two scoreless innings in relief for the Mets.
