The counting numbers are still fairly high, but the rate numbers are now mostly below average compared to rookies throughout NFL post merger history. A real mixed bag for Darnold compared to his contemporary peersOne thing that may be a bit concerning is that Darnold ranks below league average this year in every major category, and in many categories at or near league worst. Although rookies often struggle, most of the rookies that go on to have excellent NFL careers manage to be at or above league average in at least one major statistical category in their rookie years. It’s not a foolproof standard, there have been exceptions, but if Darnold does not manage to at least make it to league average in at least one major statistical category by year end it is not a particularly good omen for his career. Let’s take a look at the good and the bad in this game.The GoodJason Myers. The Jets scored 9 points in this game. Myers scored 6 of them, including a long 58 yard field goal. Myers probably cemented his spot as the Jets place kicker unless both kickers are cut. Clive Walford. Walford led Jets receivers with three catches and 40 yards. Was it enough to secure a roster spot? That isn’t clear.Derrick Jones. A nice interception on one long pass and a breakup of another lands Jones in the good column.Neville Hewitt. Active and always around the ball, Hewitt led all Jets with seven tackles to close an impressive preseason campaign.Brandon Bryant.Six tackles, some nice coverage Cheap Jason Myers Jersey , a nose for the football; it was a good game for Bryant, but probably a case of too little too late for a roster spot. Maybe he makes the practice squad.Kendall Reyes. Had a sack and several pressures. Probably not enough to make the team, but it was a good game for Reyes.Xavier Cooper. A fumble recovery and several pressures. Quietly had an effective game.The BadTrenton Cannon. A couple of drops, and little generated on the ground. Had a nice punt return, but overall another underwhelming performance by Cannon. He has shown virtually nothing to deserve a roster spot.Chad Hansen. A drop, a play where he stepped out of the back of the end zone, and a single catch for eight yards. Hansen concludes an utterly invisible preseason. If draft position isn’t taken into account Hansen does not deserve a spot on this football team.Thomas Rawls. Stonewalled near the goal line. Five carries for 15 yards. Finished off a bad preseason. The offensive line did him no favors, but Rawls should not make this team.John Wolford. It’s harsh and maybe not fair to somebody who just walked onto the team, but he was out there playing so he gets evaluated. And Wolford was not good. Inaccurate, late on his reads, unable to move the team Brian Winters Jersey , Wolford showed very little to make a case for a practice squad spot.Jordan Leggett. Invisible. Leggett has shown nothing. He should not make this team, but his draft position and his limited playing time to date might save him.The Offensive Line. Opened few holes for the running backs, provided barely adequate time for the quarterbacks.Jets receivers’ hands. The Jets dropped pass after pass in this game.
