PHILADELPHIA - While talent got Jimmy Rollins to the major leagues, confidence made him a winner and sparked the most successful run in the history of the Philadelphia Phillies. Air Max 720 Discount .The former NL MVP and three-time All-Star shortstop was officially traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, the first major step in a rebuilding process for a team thats been on a steady decline for three years.Next to go could be three-time All-Star lefty Cole Hamels, 2006 NL MVP Ryan Howard and six-time All-Star second baseman Chase Utley. Right fielder Marlon Byrd, catcher Carlos Ruiz and former AL Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee also are available.Jimmy is both an iconic player and person whom I have had the great joy of watching grow up in this game and this city, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. His contributions to the franchise and to Philadelphia are unparalleled and I wish him the best in Los Angeles. This transaction is one that I believe benefits both Jimmy and the Phillies. The Phillies got right-hander Zach Eflin and left-hander Tom Windle in the deal agreed to last week at the winter meetings and announced a day after the Dodgers completed a trade that sent slugging outfielder Matt Kemp to San Diego.Rollins leaves as the franchise leader in hits (2,306) and doubles (479) and ranks second in games played (2,090), extra-base hits (806), stolen bases (453) and total bases (3,655). He won four Gold Glove Awards, hit 216 homers, had 887 RBIs and batted .267 in 15 seasons. But Rollins is best known for his swagger more than his unique skills. The Phillies hadnt won anything in 14 years when Rollins boldly proclaimed they were the team to beat in the NL East before the 2007 season. Then the switch-hitting, leadoff hitter backed that up by having an MVP year, and helping the Phillies overcome a seven-game deficit with 17 to play to catch the New York Mets. That started Philadelphias streak of post-season appearances.Rollins hasnt come close to matching the numbers he put up in 2007 — .296 average, 30 homers, 94 RBIs, 20 triples, 41 steals. But hes still an excellent fielder with extra-base pop and even showed more patience at the plate last year by drawing a career-high 64 walks. The Dodgers are very lucky to acquire a player like Jimmy, Utley said. Ive said it time and time again that Jimmy makes everyone around him better. The team will miss his leadership on the field and his infectious smile, but most of all, I will miss our pregame handshake. The 36-year-old Rollins was the longest-tenured athlete in the city after making his major league debut on Sept. 17, 2000. He helped the Phillies to 11 winning seasons in 12 years, five straight division titles, two NL pennants and the 2008 World Series title.Rollins was the clubhouse leader, a guy who kept teammates loose and always had a smile on his face. He drew Charlie Manuels ire a few times when he didnt run out popups, but was one of the former managers favourite players. The Phillies finished last in 2014 for the first time since 2000, despite a team-record payroll over $180 million. Management has said it doesnt expect to contend before 2017 and is trying to acquire younger players for high-priced veterans.Hamels has the most value in the trade market followed by Byrd. Howards contract — hes owed $60 million — makes it difficult to move the slugging first baseman unless the Phillies pay a significant part of his salary. Lee finished the year on the disabled list so he has to prove hes healthy. Utley has a no-trade clause, so he would have to accept a deal.___Follow Rob Maaddi on Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_RobMaaddi Cheap Air Max 720 .9 million deal Thursday. Now that the games count in the standings, theyre taking part in some on-the-job training. Tortorella has implemented a more aggressive, puck-pressure style with Vancouver and he watched the Canucks succeed at it for stretches in Thursdays season-opening 4-1 loss to the Sharks in San Jose. "Our goal as coaches is that you want (the system) to be instinctive eventually. That will take some time," Tortorella said after Fridays brief practice at Rogers Arena. "(Against San Jose) I think we had some good minutes of how we wanted to play. So I think (the players) know how to play. "Its just a matter of doing it consistently." Canucks centre Ryan Kesler said the team needs to get a grasp on the system quickly, beginning with Saturdays home opener against the Edmonton Oilers, if its going to compete in the realigned and more competitive Pacific Division. "We have to learn fast. Weve got to get these points. These points are going to be important for us and the end of the year," Kesler said. "I thought we did a good job for a large part of the (San Jose) game." He added its not simply understanding the system, but believing in it. "I think weve got to trust each other, thats the big thing. Weve got to trust each other that were going to work hard," Kesler said. "We can only be aggressive if that happens. "As a group we have (the system) locked down, its just a game of mistakes. Sometimes you make the wrong read and its an outnumbered rush. Things like that are going to happen." Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa said no one in the locker-room expected the change to Tortorellas style from that of former coach Alain Vigneault to be seamless. "You cant think that its going to be perffected in the first game of the season. Air Max 720 Sale. Itll take some time but we showed some good strides there," Bieksa said. "Were happy with how we played at times (against San Jose). Other times wed like to maybe play a little different." Bieksa said theres going to be instances early in the season where the system breaks down, especially at the end of shifts or when players are hurt. "When youre not thinking clearly you kind of revert back to old habits," he said. "I think thats going to take a little bit of time to set in where its just second nature, but right now I think everybody has a good grasp of how (Tortorella) wants us to play." Among the positives from the San Jose loss was goaltender Roberto Luongo, who is back as the undisputed No. 1 after Cory Schneiders off-season trade to the New Jersey Devils. Luongo finished with 31 saves on the night, including a stellar first period that saw him stop all 16 shots he faced. The penalty killing unit also had a good night, holding the Sharks power play scoreless on eight chances. "I think we did a lot of good things," Canucks captain Henrik Sedin said. "I think we showed that if we play the right way for 60 minutes were a tough team." The Canucks know the young Oilers will be hungry on Saturday after a 5-4 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in their opener Tuesday. "Its team that weve obviously developed a little bit of a rivalry with. They usually play us very tough at the beginning of the season," Bieksa said. "We know theyll be fast, theyll be skilled and well be looking to play in their face." Note: Canucks right-winger Alexandre Burrows missed practice with an undisclosed injury suffered against the Sharks. Tortorella said the forward is "banged up" but added he expects him to play against Edmonton. ' ' '
